The OIG is granted the authority to exclude certain individuals or entities from Medicaid, Medicare and other federally funded healthcare initiatives. The list of these excluded parties is the OIG exclusion list, also referred to as the List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Hiring a person who is on the LEIE could result in your organization being subject to civil monetary penalties (CMP). This is why it is so important for healthcare organizations to check the exclusion list regularly to make sure all employees are not on it.
